Among kelp, this very rare seaweed is only found in a limited area around Hakodate in Hokkaido, Japan. Gagome is the most viscous seaweed among kelps, with its uneven surface and abundant mucilage. It contains a high level of Fucoidan, second only to Mozuku and Mekabu. Gagome Kombu contains more than twice as much fucoidan as other kelps. It also contains minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, and iodine, dietary fiber, and amino acids, and is known as a highly nutritious kelp.
